For 75 years, JAARS’ passion has been to reach the unreached—spiritually and practically. 

JAARS covers “the last mile of missions” using special-purpose aircraft, boats and off-road vehicles to relay God’s Word, His missionaries and vital supplies across age-old geographical barriers. Originally founded by modern missions pioneer William Cameron Townsend in 1948, JAARS’ mission has been to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation to Bible translators separated from isolated and marginalized people groups by remote and dangerous terrain. In the 21st century, that mission has not changed.

Operating in the global “green band” of the world’s rainforest climates, JAARS works in regions with mountainous terrain, wide expanses of open ocean, treacherous rivers and little-if-any roads, public transportation or communications infrastructure. Recruiting and training exceptional pilots, sailors and drivers to serve to the ends of the earth, JAARS’ legacy seeks to create a world where no missionary can declare a region inaccessible for the Gospel.
