‘Let’s Talk’ Invites Churches to Participate in Prayer Kick-Off Ahead of National Unity Weekend

Movement Encourages Believers to Prepare Hearts for Impactful Two-Day Event

DUMFRIES, Va., May 1, 2023 – To unite the hearts of Christians through prayer, worship and intercession preceding the first-ever National Unity Weekend, Let’s Talk invites church communities across America to engage in a Prayer Kick-Off event on May 6, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. EDT, online or in-person.

Intentionally scheduled to occur on the heels of the 71st annual National Day of Prayer, the Unity Weekend Prayer Kick-Off event is an opportunity to prepare the hearts of those who intend to participate or support the inaugural National Unity Weekend.

“At a time when our country is as divided by race as ever, it’s time for the church to lead the charge in healing the wounds of division. Mark your calendars to join esteemed Christian leaders and fellow believers in kicking off the first National Unity Weekend in the most powerful way possible — with unified prayer and intercession,” urged Bishop Derek Grier, founder and visionary behind the Let’s Talk initiative. “Let’s stand in the gap together, bringing our shared requests before God and adopting an attitude of prayer and humility as we endeavor to unify the body of Christ for His Kingdom.”

Designed to occur annually during the second weekend in June, National Unity Weekend is an opportunity for believers to demonstrate God’s love and oneness in Christ through community service, and for church leaders to synchronously share the Bible’s transformative message of unity from the pulpit.

Those who choose to participate in the pre-event time of prayer are encouraged to concentrate on these focal points:

  • Racial unity within the church

  • Walking in humility and asking God to soften the hearts of those involved

  • Repentance and departure from iniquity

  • Displaying an unconditional love for one another

  • Effectively serving those in need

  • Adopting a sense of urgency in fulfilling God's will on Earth

  • Developing a boldness to stand for God amid division

  • Softening of hearts and salvations to occur during National Unity Weekend

National Unity Weekend will take place June 10-11, 2023, in cities nationwide. Initiated to address key racial issues and foster harmony within churches and communities across America, the 2023 weekend includes the following events:

  • Prayer Kickoff - May 6: pastors, church leaders and organizations will unite in prayer and worship and intercede on behalf of our nation and Unity Weekend

  • Community Action Day - June 10: volunteers will unite to simultaneously serve underserved communities across the U.S. as a practical demonstration of love in action. In addition, Operation Blessing will provide food for distribution to serve targeted neighborhoods in Virginia, Texas, Maryland and Washington, D.C.;

  • Church Unity Day - June 11: churches and ministries across the U.S. will simultaneously focus on teaching and preaching an inspirational message on Galatians 3:28 as the foundational text.

About Let’s Talk

Let's Talk is a movement of diverse Christian leaders from across the nation joining together for real dialogue, full participation and creative approaches to address the issues dividing our nation. Its participants believe many of the critical issues facing the Church today could be resolved by talking to one another directly, honestly, simply, and caringly about what matters most. These leaders have signed a Statement of Change acknowledging there is a problem and indicating a commitment to help the Church lead the way in finding solutions. They then regularly engage in dialogue about their pain, disappointments, and triumphs, as it relates to race relations in America, as well as come up with practical solutions to the crisis.  See more at www.letstalklive.org.
