Museum of the Bible offers interactive, Bible-focused K-12 programs for in-person and online learning

WHAT:
Museum of the Bible offers a variety of online and on-site educational programs for classrooms and students in elementary through high school, as well as for homeschool families. These programs engage students with the history, narrative and impact of the Bible through immersive and transformational experiences designed to follow standards of learning for each age group. A full list of programs is included below.

Online Programs:

  • Life in First-Century Nazareth — A program that includes a tour of the “World of Jesus of Nazareth” exhibit with the museum’s living history interpreters. Students are invited to participate in real-time Q&A as they interact with the villagers.

  • Revolutionary Words: The Gutenberg Press — During this interactive presentation about the Gutenberg press, learners will experience an unusual interruption by a special guest. This is a contextual learning opportunity to compare the reproduction of a biblical page from the fifteenth century to today and to discuss the impact of the press on making Bibles more available.

  • If I Had a Hammer — Students will learn how various “tools” impacted the Protestant Reformation. They will consider how the absence of any of Martin Luther’s “tools” could have changed history.

  • Material Culture and the Hebrew Bible — Learners are given tools to engage with material culture from the biblical period. By studying artifacts from the exhibit “The People of the Land: History and Archaeology of Ancient Israel” and biblical passages, students can observe how archaeological remains allow us to better understand the text.

  • Latin Vulgate — A program that explores the use of Latin from the late fourth century until the time it becomes the standard language of the Bible in Europe in the thirteenth century.

  • Magna Carta — An interactive program that takes learners to the Americas in the seventeenth and eighteenth Centuries during the struggle against British rule.

  • Mystery & Faith: The Shroud of Turin — An interactive, curator-led program that explores the complex history behind the enduring mystery of the Shroud of Turin.

On-Site Programs:

  • Life in First-Century Nazareth Details listed above

  • Revolutionary Words: The Gutenberg PressDetails listed above

  • Ancient Art of the Torah Scribe — Learners will interact with a rabbi and explore the ancient art of writing a Hebrew Torah Scroll with a master scribe. There will be an opportunity to examine artifacts and materials related to scribal traditions, and learners will also be able to practice Hebrew calligraphy.

  • Archaeology and the Bible — A program that explores the work of archaeologists who have uncovered remnants of ancient Israel. Students will discover what archaeology reveals about Judean culture and neighboring cities during biblical times and its contribution to understanding that period.

  • Religious Freedom and the Founding of America — Students will examine the story of religious freedom in America, from colonial settlement through the passing of the Bill of Rights. Small group activities encourage contextual understanding of the events at the founding of the nation.

  • History of the Jewish People Tour — Learners will explore the history of the Jewish people through the lens of the Bible and artifacts in “The People of the Land” exhibit and on the museum’s History of the Bible Floor.
