What Does Your Money Really Support? Ivy League Antisemitism Shows the Importance of ‘Value-Aligned Spending’ for American Christians

WHAT:

Ivy League universities are facing backlash over antisemitism on campus and recent Congressional testimony from their presidents, with alumni now re-thinking where they put their dollars.

Two recent stories in the news:

  • Over the weekend, University of Pennsylvania president Liz Magill resigned amid bipartisan controversy over her refusal to tell Members of Congress if calls for the genocide of Jewish people would violate university standards. Meanwhile, UPenn lost $100 million in donations from an alumna who was calling for Magill’s resignation.

  • Despite similar criticism, Harvard announced that its president, Claudine Gay, will remain in the role despite her controversial testimony before Congress.

Evelio Silvera, Vice President of Communications and Strategy at Christian Care Ministry (CCM), believes this recent Ivy League controversy provides a roadmap for American Christians to influence culture through “value-aligned spending,” where Christians are strategic in supporting businesses and organizations that support traditional family values.

Silvera is available to weigh in on the following topics:

  • Value-Aligned Spending: The importance of Christians knowing what you are supporting when you donate and spend your dollars. We are in a culture war, and as Christian consumers, we have a responsibility to consider how our dollars can be used to further kingdom causes.

  • Strategic Impact vs. Boycotts: Today’s church should be intentional about having a practical and significant impact on the culture war, rather than be angry boycotters.

CCM is the non-profit 501(c)(3) association of churches that manages Medi-Share, the popular healthcare sharing ministry that provides Christians an alternative to insurance companies, many of which support activities like abortion that go against Biblical values.
